UPLBFI and partners kick-off new climate change initiative for the fisheries sector


Following the success of the pilot study on Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) for the fisheries sector, the Department of Agriculture Regional Field Office (DA-RFO) 2 once again collaborates with UPLBFI to implement a new climate change initiative.

The project aims to enhance the initially developed frameworks for the Aquaculture and Capture Fisheries sectors, and mainstream the CRVA process in the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

UPLBFI facilitated an inception meeting last 06 August 2024 at B Hotel, Quezon City to officially commence the project. It was participated by project partners including representatives from BFAR Regional Field Office 2 and Central Office, NFRDI, DA Climate Resilient Agriculture Office (CRAO), and DA RFO 2. Notably, Dir. Alicia Ilaga (Director, DA-CRAO), Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos (Scientist V, NFRDI), Dir. Roberto Busania (OIC RTD for Operations and Extension, DA RFO 2), and Ms. Bernadette Galoso (OIC Chief, PMED, DA RFO 2) were present during the activity.

Representing UPLBFI were Ms. Dorcas Trinidad (Project Leader), Ms. Julie Ann Barril (Project Documentation Specialist),  Mr. Jonathan Austria (CRVA Data Specialist), Mr. Rollie Osayan (Management Information System Specialist), Mr. Carl Earvin Carada (GIS Specialist), Mr. Arvin Carandang (Economist), Ms. Marteena Kyla Panopio (Science Research Analyst), Mr. Ellison Valencia (Project Assistant), and Mr. Paolo Gibe (Project Assistant).

The project is expected to be completed by July 2025.
