UPLBFI collaborates with the Department of Agriculture Climate Resilient Agriculture Office (CRAO), DA Region 2, National Fisheries Research and Development Institute (NFRDI), Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT to pilot the conduct of Climate Risk Vulnerability Assessment (CRVA) for the fisheries sector in the Philippines.

The UPLBFI project team represented by Ms. Julie Ann Barril and Mr. Jonathan Austria, together with Dr. Saturnina Halos, Technical Consultant of DA-CRAO, met with Dr. Mudjekeewis Santos and Ms. Joannah Calderon of NFRDI, Dr. Emma Ballad of BFAR Region 2, and Ms. Kay Olivas and other planning staff of DA Region 2 to formally launch the pioneering project last June 08 at the DA Main Office in San Gabriel, Tuguegarao.

In a separate meeting, the team also discussed with BFAR Region 2 Director, Dr. Angel Encarnacion, the ways forward of the project.

The project aims to develop a CRVA framework for the fisheries sector which can help local planners and policy makers in crafting tailor-fitted programs for the fisherfolk in Region 2.

The CRVA framework for fisheries to be developed will be operationalized in selected priority areas in Region 2 and is aimed to be replicated in other regions in the Philippines.
