The National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) and the UPLB Foundation Inc., (UPLBFI) forged partnership in an animal health research program entitled Holistic Approaches in the Diagnosis, Prevention, Control, and Treatment of Animal Pests and Diseases. This research program aims primarily to develop products using indigenous resources for treatment and prevention of important livestock and poultry diseases. The outcomes of this research program are expected to make the cost of treatment and prevention of livestock diseases cheaper but equally effective when compared to the existing commercial ones. In two years, this NRCP – UPLBFI collaborative research program is expected to produce novel technologies which if immediately adopted and made commercially available could improve the productivity of the majority of livestock and poultry raisers in the country, the small-hold/backyard farm animal raisers.
